Climate Classroom @ NAP Expo 2018
10 April 2018, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt - After COP22 and COP23, the most recent edition of the Climate Classroom took place at the NAP Expo 2018. This is an outreach event, which was held on 4-6 April 2018 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, to promote experience sharing and collaboration on how to advance National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
Session 1: Skills “POKER” for Advancing NAPs
During this class, participants had a teaser on how a new and fun skills assessment tool developed by the NAP Global Support Programme (NAP-GSP) – skills assessment deck of cards – can help countries in their NAP processes. In particular, the cards help to identify the types of skills that a country may need to achieve its goals and where those skills should be located. Ms. Josefina Ashipala from the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) first presented the cards and then encouraged participants to play with them in groups. The event concluded with a discussion with the audience.
Session 2: “Keeping the Taps Running in a Changing Climate” – How to Mainstream Climate Change Adaptation in Water Resources
Water is vital not only for our lives but also for social and economic development. However, this is one of the most vulnerable sectors to impacts of climate change. This class, presented by Ms. Lucy Naydenova from UN Environment, highlighted 4 key approaches commonly used to promote climate change adaptation in water resources and referred to two case studies. It introduced a 3-module training package being developed by the UNITAR in partnership with UN Environment under the NAP-GSP.
